Microchipping Your Pet
'Identichip' is a tiny microchip with an identification code unique to you and your pet. It is injected under the skin in the same way that the vet regularly vaccinated against disease.
When your pet is picked up, a widely available scanner will detect the 'Identichip' and read the unique code in much the same way as barcodes are read at supermarket checkouts. All your 'Identichip' details are recorded on a computer database, which is centrally available 24 hours a day. When your details are retrieved you will be contacted immediately.
Owners can view their pet's details on the Identichip website
Scanners are routinely used by rescue kennels and dog wardens all over the country. Their use is also standard procedure at RSPCA and SSPCA homes, the Cats Protection and by many welfare societies.
If you have more than one pet, each one can be identified separately and given its own unique identification code.
'Identichip' is completely safe for you pet and causes no more discomfort than any other injection. In dogs and cats it is permanently placed in the loose skin at the back of the neck and can be used in pets of any age, breed or species, from Great Danes to mice.
How Does It Work?
If your pet goes missing then all you have to do is make one phone call to a dedicated 24hr helpline. 'Identichip' will then send a local alert to Dog Wardens, Recovery Centres and Veterinary Surgeries in your surrounding area. You are updated daily on any progress.
At Aireworth Vets we use Bio-Thermal microchips to 'Identichip' our patients. This revolutionary technology, incorporates a thermometer and an identifier all in one chip and allows our vets to check your animal's temperature at the press of a button.
Traditionally the only accurate way to take a pets temperature was rectally. Clearly this has many disadvantages, including stress to the pet and it can be extremely time consuming.
