Work Experience

At Aireworth Vets we try to encourage students of all ages who are seeking to pursue a career in veterinary practice and we receive many applications.

The minimum age for Small Animal (pet) placements is 16 and our preference is to select A-level students who have finished their GCSEs and are planning to study Veterinary medicine either as Nurses or Vets.

We offer regular weekday evening shifts from 4.00 to 7.00 and we sometimes need more experienced volunteers on Saturdays from 8.30 to 12.30. During work experience you will be asked to support the Small Animal nursing staff which often involves cleaning and some supervised help with our in-patients. You may also have the opportunity to observe surgical procedures and consultations with the Small Animal Vets.

Unfortunately we are not able to accommodate requests for block placements as these usually fall within the university holidays when we like to give vet students priority.

In our Large Animal (farm and equine) division placements are reserved for student vets who are typically over 18 and already at university.

Please note: If you are in school year 10 or year 11 or if you are just starting your first year at Craven College we are sorry we cannot offer you any work experience.

We always hold a trial session for potential work experience candidates, providing an opportunity for you to visit the Practice, have an informal interview and work alongside our Veterinary Nurses for a couple of hours. This gives us a chance to get to know you and see you in action and helps us decide whether we can offer you some work experience.

All enquiries about work experience at Aireworth Vets should include a CV and be addressed to Alice Macnab the Practice Manager.

WInter / Spring 2012: We have a few regular weekday evening shifts available for work experience, please send your CV and application letter to apply.
