Zone Visits

Since 2005 Aireworth Vets have been offering a popular 'Zone Visit' to carry out routine and non-urgent equine veterinary work at reduced cost. You still have to pay for the items used and the Vets's time - if you require their expert advice, although the cost of the Vet travelling to see your horse is subsidised by Aireworth Vets.

When you pre-book your zone visit, you can ask for an estimated price for the service you need.

Each of the five 'zones' have been allocated a particular day per week:
     North - Monday
     East - Tuesday
     South - Wednesday
     West - Monday & Thursday
     Central - Friday

To qualify for a Zone Visit, you must be available throughout the day of the visit as you can't specify a time in advance and we are NOT able to provide any notice during the day.

Our individual visit service for urgent cases and those requiring a particular day or specific vet is also available and also very popular (charged at the usual rates). These bespoke visits suit clients who need to specify a time of day or a particular vet.

There are four key requirements for a Zone Visit:

1. ZONE VISITS MUST BE PRE-BOOKED
Although the large animal office is open from 8.30am until 5.30pm Monday to Friday, it’s best to call after 9.00 to avoid the early morning rush. Zone Visits should be booked well in advance to ensure availability.

Pre-booking enables us to plan the work list for the vet visiting the zone more efficiently, allowing us to pass the saving on to you.

2. YOU CAN NOT SPECIFY A PARTICULAR VET OR SPECIFIC TIME
To make the system work we need to be flexible about the vet who may attend and the time of day.

If you cannot be available throughout the day, then a Zone Visit is not appropriate for you.

We strongly recommend case continuity for the benefit of your horse. Ideally the vet who first attends a new case should continue to monitor progress and response to treatment. This is particularly important to assess changes in levels of lameness or the rate of healing of a wound. Re-examinations of on-going cases are not appropriate for a Zone Visit.

3. ZONE VISITS ARE IDEAL FOR: ROUTINE VACCINATIONS; SIMPLE DENTAL WORK; IDENTIFICATION CERTIFICATES; MICRO-CHIPPING; AND FIRST CONSULTATIONS FOR MINOR PROBLEMS

However, re-examinations, surgical procedures, castrations, purchase / insurance examinations, lameness investigations, complex dental work, endoscopy, scanning and x-rays are not suitable for Zone Visits.

These and other more complex and time-consuming procedures need to be scheduled at an appropriate time of day and with a specific vet who may need specialised equipment like endoscopes and scanners.

Please book a standard visit for these more involved procedures.

4. CLIENTS MUST CALL THE OFFICE BEFORE 9.00 ON THE MORNING OF THEIR ZONE VISIT TO BE GIVEN THEIR INTENDED TWO HOUR TIME SLOT

It is important that you (the client or owner) or a responsible person or agent nominated by you, are available throughout the designated two hour time period to be with the horse and answer any questions the Vet may have.

A significant problem occurs when clients either forget to attend their horse or cancel at the last minute. Requests for the vet to phone “when they’re on their way” to a Zone Visit cannot be satisfied.

We work hard to stick to the two-hour time slot, please help us to maintain this popular service.
