Castration (Equine)
Aireworth Vets can usually perform a 'standing castration' for colts under 2 years old (with 2 normal descended testicles) at your yard. We require a clean quiet stable with good light and supply of clean water.
Prices start from £150 and includes the castration procedure; sedation, a local anaesthetic, a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) and an antibiotic, both administered by injection.
Stallions which are 3 years old & over should be brought brought to the surgery for their 'surgical castration' as they may require a general anaesthetic.
Prices start from £270 and includes the (more complex) castration procedure; sedation, a local anaesthetic, a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) and an antibiotic, both administered by injection, suture material and the anaesthetic gas (if required).
Additional items which may also be required before, during or after the procedure and are NOT included in either price:
· NSAID Sachets
· Tetanus Toxoid
· Tetanus Antitoxin
· Vet's professional time (follow up examinations)
· Visit Fees
Please note, beacause of the special equipment required andtime of the procedure, castrations can NOT be carried out on Zone Visits
Castrations of shetland ponies / miniature ponies and donkeys:
We advise shetlands/mintures & donkeys be brought to the surgery where we may be able to perform the castration at the same price as a standing colt castration (£150.00)
If your colt or stallion has a retained testicle, the vet will need to examine him before providing you with an estimate for the cost of the castration.
We will happily provide a written estimate of the probable costs of a course of treatment. Please bear in mind that any estimate given can only be approximate as an animal's treatment and recovery may not follow a conventional course.
Further information about equine castration is available in one of our information leaflets, click here to download a copy.
